To understand Astrology, a change in the way that we see the world is necessary. The year begins in March, rather than January and for six months: from March until September, the Sun rules over the Earth with the Summer Solstice marking the height of the Sun’s power. In September the Moon begins its ascension to power; reaching its greatest influence on the Winter Solstice, or Christmas day as it is better known. The months of the year were originally named one to twelve; as can be seen from some of the remaining names: Oct meaning eight, Nov meaning nine and Dec meaning ten. January and February were eleven and twelve. The Sun provides the world with life and is a positive force, the Moon takes life from the world and is a negative force.

The celebrations that take place on the shortest, darkest days of the year are nothing to do with the birth of Jesus or a new year beginning, as any Magician will tell you; they are a celebration of all things negative, a time for drunkenness, lust and displays of wealth.

All of the stars revolve around Polaris (the North Star and the centre point between positive and negative) and complete one revolution every 23:56:04. This means that they travel a little bit faster than the Sun and considerably faster than the Moon. There are twelve star formations which surround Earth, these are known as the Signs of the Zodiac and are the same from anywhere on Earth. These formations each take up exactly 30 degrees of the 360 degrees of the sky. Because of the difference in the time that the Sun and the star formations take to revolve, the Sun enters into a different Sign of the Zodiac around every 30 days and it does so 12 times a year. Over the course of a year, the Sun, along with all of the Planets as well as the Moon will pass through each of the Signs of the Zodiac, all spending a certain period in each.

The Signs of the Zodiac are the months of the year and as the Sun enters each, changes are made on the Earth and on the people who live here. The Gregorian Calendar that the whole world lives by, needs leap years to make up for its inaccuracies, it is deeply flawed. The calendar in the sky is there for all to see and live by, if we follow its lead and take heed of its warnings we only stand to profit from it.

Every 26,000 years a full revolution of the Signs of the Zodiac takes place, moving the world from one age to the next. We are currently transitioning from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius and we will remain there for 2160 years.

All of our energy comes from the light of each heavenly body and the energy of each is different. Each Sign of the Zodiac is assigned an element of Earth, Air, Water or Fire and each of these react differently to the energy that comes from the luminaries. Each Sign has its own Ruler and the combination of the heavenly bodies within each Sign provide a unique energy which affects everyone of us differently, depending on the moment of our birth.
